Mom Tosses Son Off Bridge, Killing Him

A 34-year-old woman is charged with throwing her son off the Yaquina Bay Bridge. Jillian McCabe of Seal Rock, Ore., about 10 miles south of the bridge, called 911 to report that she threw her 6-year-old boy into the water, Newport Police Chief Mark Miranda said. "I just threw my son over the Yaquina Bay Bridge," she told a 911 dispatcher, according to a probable cause affidavit. Read more...

Babysitter Facing Sexual Assault Charges

A Willimantic woman is facing several charges including first degree sexual assault after she was arrested. Police arrested 25-year-old Mary Beth Rataic because she sexually assaulted a ten-year-old boy that she was babysitting on more than one occasion. Rataic told police that the victim's brother told her that the ten-year-old had a "crush" on her. In court documents, Rataic said she "felt flattered, but knew he was just a little boy, so I played it off." The victim's family said Rataic and the boy had sexual contact on at least three occasions. Read more...

Lawyer Had Sex With Captive Girl, 14

A Philadelphia lawyer was charged with patronizing a sex-trafficking ring that held a missing 14-year-old girl captive and sent her to his downtown office to have sex with him. The girl was held captive just blocks from her Philadelphia home in March 2012 and sometimes hired out 20 times a week, District Attorney Seth Williams said. She was "sold" a month later to another pimp in Camden, N.J., before she turned up in Georgia that summer as a potential sex trafficking victim, a grand jury report said. Read more...

Rapist Charged in 1981 Cold Case Murder

A convicted rapist serving an 80-year prison term has been linked by DNA evidence to the 1981 stabbing death of a Chicago woman and charged with first-degree murder, prosecutors announced. Eugene Booker, 59, appeared in Cook County court on charges he fatally stabbed Carol Novak, 35, and was ordered held without bond in the murder. He previously was convicted of sexually assaulting women on the Chicago's North Side in the 1980s. Read more...

Doctors said Duke would make a full recovery, but he never did. An arrest warrant for Mary Welch accuses her of deceiving doctors into prescribing debilitating drugs and performing invasive surgeries on her son. She's charged with child endangerment. Freed Inmate Convicted of Molestation

Set free in 2012 after serving 37 years of a life sentence for murder, a 79-year-old Arizona man is headed back to prison after being convicted of sexual assault. William Macumber was convicted in Arapahoe County, Colo., court on Friday after two children relatives said he inappropriately touched them between April and August 2013, just five months after his release. Teacher Arrested for Sexual Contact

A Richardson teacher has been arrested with having an improper relationship with a student. Officers said the girl's parent contacted them on Nov. 20 after the 16-year-old received unwanted texts and emails from Richardson High School English teacher James Quigley. Once police interviewed the girl, they discovered the teenager and Quigley, 34, engaged in sexual contact between May 1, 2014 and June 30, 2014. Read more...

Man Accused in Sexual Assault of Teen

A Hewitt man was arrested after police investigated claims that he sexually assaulted a teenage girl two years ago. Donald William Swaner, 73, was charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child for the incident. He was released from the McLennan County Jail on Friday after posting a $40,000 bond. According to the arrest affidavit, the victim's mother contacted police this month after finding a suicide note in her daughter's trash in October in which the girl said she had been sexually assault two or three years ago. Victim of Wichita Rape, Burning Dies

A woman who was found beaten, burned and sexually assaulted in a Wichita park last week has died of injuries sustained in the attack, police say. The 36-year-old victim was discovered Nov. 14 by firefighters responding to a blaze in Fairmount Park, south of the Wichita State University campus. She had been beaten, cut, sexually assaulted and badly burned and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Read more...

Instructor Charged With Assault of 13-Year-Old

George Mendoza-Valentino, 27, apparently met the victim when she enrolled at the Springfield A.T.A. Martial Arts Academy branch. He sexually assaulted her at his academy multiple times in the last month, according to a prosecutor. An investigation also revealed that Mendoza-Valentino sent the victim sexually explicit images and videos and asked her to do the same. Read more...

Boyfriend Charged in Child Abuse Case

An Eagle Grove man has been arrested and charged in connection with a child abuse case. Police said they investigated a report of a possible child abuse on Feb. 27. A young boy and his brother were interviewed. The boy was sent to the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion for treatment after the boys claimed that their mother's boyfriend, Jordan Elton Olson, 30, had assaulted the boy. Read more...

Baby's Death Leads to Charges of Incest

A man and his daughter are being held on charges murder, cruelty to children and cruelty to a physically disabled person, after the body of a 15-month-old girl was brought to a Georgia hospital. Police said Calvin Mcintosh, 44, brought his unresponsive daughter, Alcenti, to Northside Hospital in Sandy Springs. She was declared dead on arrival and police were called. Read more...

Elder Care Home Owner Arrested

The owner of an elder care home was arrested in Auburn, accused of raping an 83-year-old resident. Officers were called to Auburn's Adult Care by a family member of an 83-year-old woman, reporting sexual abuse. The family of the woman had hidden a camera inside her room, suspecting that something wasn't right. The camera caught the man sexually assaulting the elderly woman. Police said when they saw the video, they immediately arrested the owner, Laszlo Molnar. Read more...

Mom Pleads Not Guilty to Child Abuse

A Delaware County woman accused of numerous heinous acts against nine children in her custody pleaded not guilty on at her district court arraignment. Deidre Matthews, 47, and her estranged husband, Jerry Dean Matthews, 63, both of Jay, are charged in Delaware County District Court with 10 counts of child abuse, seven counts of child neglect and enabling child abuse. Man Charged With Sexual Assault of Dog

A Bristol, Tennessee man is jailed on charges of crimes against nature. According to the Washington County, Virginia Sheriff's Office, 47-year-old James Michael Foran was charged with sexually assaulting a dog. The dog's owner told officers he felt his female dog, a Labrador mix, had been sexually assaulted at a location on Wallace Pike in Washington County, Virginia. A registered sex offender was arrested by Dover police after a report that he engaged in sex with a 14-year-old girl, police said. Fletcher Tilghman, 35, of Dover, was charged with seven counts of third-degree rape, unlawful sexual contact and unlawful sexual contact against a child by a sex offender, said Cpl. Mark Hoffman. A registered sex offender led police to a missing 13-year-old girl. Jercore Jones, 34 is in jail facing one count of drug paraphernalia and two counts of lewd and lascivious conduct. A convicted sex offender who was arrested in connection with an August home invasion in Clifton Park, has been charged with eight felonies, according to the Saratoga County District Attorney's Office. Alvin W. Dubois Jr., 58, of Rensselaer was charged with the following felonies: two counts of burglary, two counts of sexually motivated burglary, assault, sexually motivated assault, strangulation and sexually motivated strangulation. Tempe Police Arrest Sexual Assault Suspect

Police announced that they've taken into custody a suspected sexual predator accused in a series of incidents in Tempe and Mesa, including the sexual assault of a 91-year-old Tempe woman last month. Woman Pleads Guilty in Child Abuse

A woman has admitted that she left children alone with two men she knew were registered sex offenders. Sherry Ann Oats, 49, of Davenport pleaded guilty to one count child endangerment with injury, a Class D felony, and four counts of child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor. Court documents describe disturbing details of how two Indiana University students were raped at gunpoint. Nineteen-year-old Vaylen Glazewood and 19-year-old Michael Deweese stood before a judge for their initial court appearance where they face multiple charges. Police say Glazewood and Deweese forced themselves inside a bottom-floor apartment in the 500 block of East 12th Street.
