A suspended Catholic priest recovering from a beating allegedly from an inmate in the Suffolk jail last week was arraigned in his hospital room yesterday on charges that he sexually abused a 6-year-old boy. Officials at the Riverhead jail said Barry Ryan, 56, of Palm City, Fla., was beaten with a stick by another inmate while showering last Friday, the day he was scheduled to appear in court on a felony indictment stemming from allegations he gave and received oral sex last year with the boy during visits to Suffolk County. Ryan's arraignment was rescheduled, but because he was still hospitalized, Judge Ralph Gazzillo, a Suffolk prosecutor, Ryan's defense attorney and court staffers went to him instead yesterday morning.
