Republican Congressman outed
Schrock will not run again; faces homosexual allegations
WASHINGTON -- Rep. Edward L. Schrock, a conservative Republican from Hampton Roads and a retired Navy captain, announced yesterday he was withdrawing his bid for re-election to a third term this November because of allegations about his personal life. In a stunning and short retirement statement, Schrock, 63, said the allegations "have called into question my ability to represent the citizens of Virginia's Second Congressional District." Shrock made his decision yesterday, his chief of staff said, in large part following allegations made on a Web site. That site alleged Aug. 19 that Schrock made a habit of "rendezvousing with gay men" through an interactive telephone service but supported "homophobic" legislation. Schrock has co-sponsored the Federal Marriage Admendment. Last night, the Web site www.blogACTIVE.com said that it had "outed" Schrock and posted a link to two recordings allegedly made of Schrock's voice. The male described his physical attributes and said, "I'd just like to get together with a guy - time to time - to play." The voice on the recording described sexual acts.
