Paroled Sex Offender Arrested

A former, local police chief and registered sex offender was arrested this week when he bought a gun from an undercover officer, authorities said. Galen Fritz, 63, of Caln, was released from state and federal prison in April after serving a 15-year sentence for a 1989 conviction on multiple counts of indecent assault and corruption of minors. "Red flags" were raised to officials for a number of reasons when a confidential informant told police Fritz was interested in purchasing a gun, said Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Hess. In addition to the fact that convicted felons are not permitted to own a firearm by law, the 1989 conviction showed Fritz had used guns or other weapons to lure children by piquing their interest, officials said.
