Roman Catholic Abuse Victim Given Record Payout

MANCHESTER, England -- A British man who was sexually abused as a child by a Roman Catholic priest was awarded a record $1.1 million in damages by the High Court Thursday. The man was abused by the Rev. Christopher Clonan from the ages of 8 to 18. Now 35, he suffers from schizophrenia and post-traumatic stress disorder and requires constant care. Clonan committed the abuse while working in Coventry under the Birmingham Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church. He died in Australia in 1998 while on the run from British police.
