A former Santa Fe teacher facing molestation charges is being sued by a student who alleges the teacher sexually abused him. The lawsuit filed in federal court alleges that Ernest Dominguez fondled the boy on a "regular and frequent basis." It also says the boy was afraid of Dominguez and "did not believe that he was free to leave the desk and felt confined" when the alleged abuse occurred. The lawsuit claims the school district failed to appropriately screen job applicants and to exclude a known child abuser from school premises. Dominguez is awaiting trial on charges of molesting four students at Salazar Elementary School. He left Santa Fe Public Schools a few months before he was indicted in May 2003. A suit filed by two other boys last year accused Dominguez of molesting them while they were fifth- and sixth-graders at Salazar. In 1998, Dominguez was accused of inappropriately touching two boys at Granger Elementary School in Tucumcari, according to a lawsuit filed in May 2000. The case was settled, and no criminal charges were filed.
