Music Teacher Convicted Of Molesting Students Won't Stand Trial

A former Iowa City vocal music tutor convicted of molesting his teenaged students will not stand trial to determine if he should be placed in a treatment center for sex offenders. Prosecutors dismissed their case against Weyburn Wasson on Tuesday. Wasson, 58, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of third-degree sexual abuse in 2001. He completed his sentence in November, but remained at the Newton Correctional Facility in Newton until the outcome of the civil commitment trial, which was set for Jan. 30. Full story...
