Department of Homeland Security Employee Gets 32 Years for Sexually Abusing Boy

PLATTSBURGH -- In March, a jury found Jason Beauharnois guilty of predatory sexual assault against a child, first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child and first-degree sexual abuse, all felonies, as well as endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. During a week-long trial, the prosecution argued that the former employee of the Department of Homeland Security sexually abused a boy from age 6 to 12. "It started out with touching and progressed to violent acts of sodomy," Assistant District Attorney Chantelle Schember said. After the physical abuse stopped, she said, Beauharnois was always with his victim psychologically -- when the boy was in school, when he soiled his pants, when he went to bed at night. "The defendant has taken so much from this child," Schember said. "We ask you to take from this defendant his liberty." Beauharnois showed no remorse for his actions, she said, instead, smiling, snickering and laughing during the trial, even puffing his chest out when his victim testified.
