Sacred Heart Teacher James Van Valkinburgh Sentenced to Prison
James D. Van Valkinburgh, the former Sacred Heart Academy teacher who pleaded guilty to statutory rape involving one of his students, was ordered to serve a three- to nine-year prison term. State Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski strongly rebuked Van Valkinburgh, 42, of the Town of Tonawanda for having "used your position of power to seduce" the 16-year-old girl.Click Here For The Full Story......

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A former teacher at a private girls' school in western New York has been given a three- to nine-year prison term for having an affair with a 16-year-old student. James Van Valkinburgh pleaded guilty to statutory rape in March. The 42-year-old Tonawanda man apologized to the victim's family and his own at his sentencing Wednesday. The girl's father called Van Valkinburgh a monster.
