Accused Rapist, Pedophile Hangs Himself
A man accused of raping young girls in their homes a decade ago killed himself in prison this weekend, prosecutors said this afternoon. Charles Joseph Steffani, 55, of St. Charles, tied a bed sheet around his neck and lay down in a way that cut off circulation sometime Saturday, St. Charles County prosecutor Jack Banas said. Steffani was charged in St. Charles County with 17 felonies, including multiple counts of forcible sodomy and sexual abuse and one count each of statutory sodomy and forcible rape. He already was serving a 20-year sentence for several other sexual assaults in St. Louis and St. Charles counties. In the charges he still faced, he was accused of sneaking into houses and assaulting young girls in 1996 and 1998.Click Here For The Full Story......
