Police, GBI Break Up Child Porn Network

Columbus was among the cities in which investigators served warrants Tuesday to break up what the Georgia Bureau of Investigation called an Internet child pornography network comparable to the old Napster music-sharing system. GBI spokesman John Bankhead said the Columbus Police Department was one of 17 local law enforcement agencies serving warrants and seizing computer equipment in “Operation Shattered Innocence,” an investigation that began last December. He said the crackdown also involved three federal agencies, U.S. attorneys in Georgia’s northern, middle and southern districts and the state attorney general. The computer network allowed users to share pornographic images of children, Bankhead said.
