Adultery & Murder: Teacher Jailed On Sex Charges Granted Retrial

A former Melbourne teacher found guilty of making a 17-year-old student pregnant and paying for her abortion has been granted a retrial. Stephen Peter Morrow, 56, who worked as a physics teacher at an inner Melbourne girls' school, was last year jailed for a maximum of six years after he was convicted of nine counts of penetrating a 16- or 17-year-old child under his authority in the late 1990s. In a unanimous decision in the Victorian Court of Appeal, justices Robert Redlich, Geoffrey Nettle and Lex Lasry today quashed Morrow's convictions and ordered a retrial.

Stephen Peter Morrow was jailed for a minimum of four years for having sexual relations with the student while he was a physics teacher at an inner Melbourne girl's school in the late 1990s. He was found guilty by a Victorian County Court jury last year of nine counts of penetrating a 16- or 17-year-old child under his care, supervision or authority.

A married teacher had unprotected sex with a student 30 years his junior at least 33 times before she became pregnant and had an abortion, a court has heard. Now a 25-year-old woman, the victim told the County Court in Melbourne today she lost her virginity to Stephen Peter Morrow and they had unprotected sex more than 33 times, usually in the back of his car.
