Church, Knox Say Sorry for Sex Abuse

KNOX Grammar and the Uniting Church have apologised to sex abuse victims after a third former teacher pleaded guilty to child sex offences. The apology comes after Craig Treloar, 50, pleaded guilty in Central Local Court on Tuesday to sexual abuse charges relating to offences in the 1970s and 1980s. Teachers Damien Vance and Roger James pleaded guilty to similar offences and have been convicted. Magistrate Allan Moore adjourned Treloar’s case to the District Court next year so a pre-sentence report can be prepared. The school and the church said in a joint statement on Tuesday they were “sincerely sorry and unreservedly apologise for the abuse of these students by these three teachers while they attended school”. Knox Headmaster John Weeks said: “Neither the school nor the Uniting Church makes any excuse for such abhorrent behaviour.
