Court Upholds Conviction On Man Who Raped 11 Year Old
The conviction of a man who raped his 11-year-old adopted daughter over the years and resulting in her pregnancy was upheld in court Tuesday. The North Carolina Court of Appeals unanimously upheld the convictions of Transylvania County resident Edward Walter Smith, 66. In June 2008, Smith was convicted in Transylvania County Superior Court on eight counts of statutory rape, six counts of statutory sex offense, two counts of sex offense in a parental role and was ordered to enroll in the lifetime satellite monitoring system upon his release from prison.
